Traditional Classical Guitars
Traditional Classical Guitar
Damian uses only the finest tonal timbers to build his range of traditional guitars. Blending the qualities of the finest Hauser and Romanillos guitars to produce a classical guitar that has beautiful trebles and a responsive bass. In this range of traditional classical guitars Damian aims to reproduce the magic tone of the guitars used by Julian Bream.
The traditional classical guitars are all french polished to a high gloss The tops are German Spruce or Western Red Cedar, these two timbers have a tremendous effect on the sound with players generally have a tendency for one or the other. The Cedar produces a lovely warm sounding instrument from the very start of its life. Spruce on the other hand produces the magical sound associated with a Hauser or Romanillos but will take some time to play in. All Lodge Guitar Classical guitars have a 2mm taper on the bass side of the fretboard to allow for greater attack on the bass strings due to the wide vibration pattern compared to the treble strings. (Take a look at the gallery for a picture of the taper) This allows the bass strings to be played without any fret buzz or noise and maintains a flat bridge for the right hand. The saddle in the bridge is compensated so your guitar will play in tune when playing with other instruments. An additional fret has been added so players can play a high C and G on the respective E and B strings. All guitar tops and backs are built on a curved work board. This gives the tops and backs of the guitars greater strength and stops some of the structural problems in a guitar top (deflect/sag around the bridge). This additional strength allows a reduction in the thickness of the tops ever so slightly to produce greater volume in the guitars without any loss in tone. The tops and backs are built on two different curved work forms that have different radii. Options on these guitars can also include cut away, pick up, sound ports, arm rests and inlay. A Traditional Classical Guitar takes approximately 140 hours to complete, with most of the building process completed by hand with hand tools that have been passed down through generations of the Lodge family. |
